In fond memory of Ann Butler and Benitha Livingstone
Ann Butler, No 9. Passed away 2/8/2008
Benitha passed away 2/8/2002
This week marks the anniversary of the passing away of two of our most courageous runners. Benitha Livingstone died of breast cancer on the 2nd August 2002. Exactly 6 years later Ann Butler also passed away having lost her battle with breast cancer after a brave fight.
Benitha had thought that she was clear of the cancer and found a new zest in life by taking up running at a late age. Ann too seemed to make a recovery, even to the point running a half marathon in Bath in the UK in early 2008. The cancer came back and for weeks she continued to run the predictor. Her last run was less than six weeks before she died.
I was privileged to have known both Ann and Benitha. They were full of zest for life and inspired many other runners in the club. Ironically, they knew each other very well through the Running Club and Jebel Ali Sailing club.
It is with great fondness that I recall the memory of Ann and Benitha mixed with a watering of the eyes at the sadness of their passing.
